Fall Conclave Recap

Over the weekend, the lodge enjoyed a weekend of memorable activities and food themed around the Southeastern US. The activities committee had chapters go head-to-head in kahoot trivia and the construction of Mardi Gras floats. Everyone in attendance especially enjoyed Saturday’s biscuits and gravy, jambalaya, and banana pudding.

Fall Conclave was a success not only in its enjoyment, but in the number of Arrowmen who attended. A total of 197 people came to the event, falling barely short of the 200-person attendance goal. Even with hurricane Ian’s disruption of many schedules this month, it was the biggest weekend the lodge has held since 2017. 70 candidates completed their ordeal, and 35 members went through the brotherhood process. A partially new ceremonies team successfully conducted a single pre-ordeal ceremony on Friday night with every single candidate in attendance. Chapter Chiefs, whose own ordeal weekends are coming up soon, had a great example to follow at Sand Hill. The lodge continues its upward momentum at the close of 2022, and has a lot to look forward to in the new year.

Register for Fall Conclave 2022

Come out to Sand Hill Scout Reservation from October 7-9th to join us for our lodge’s largest induction event of the year, Fall Conclave! We will offer the ordeal and brotherhood process in addition to camp service and activities themed around the Southeast Region (where we live). Register before Sunday, October 2nd to avoid the $10 late registration fee. If we meet our goal of 200 Lodge patch featuring a bull in tourist clothes on a bridgein attendance, we will have the opportunity to soak the lodge chief (and possibly others) with water balloons, so make sure to get all your friends to attend!

Since we are planning to induct so many members into our lodge, the need for Elangomats has never been greater. If you are able to serve as an Elangomat (ordeal-only guide) or Extended Elangomat (guide from ordeal to brotherhood), please reach out to our Vice-Chief of Membership, Ben A., at vcm@uhtoyehhuttee.org.

Lodge Leadership Development – Recap

In August, the lodge held our annual Lodge Leadership Development. This one-night event at Camp Soule gave lodge leaders the tools and trainings they needed to continue our successful streak into another year. Not only were there trainings, but also activities to promote both leadership skills and simple fun.

Much of Friday evening was spent at the camp pool, where we continued the Bulls Across America Theme with a Hawaiian luau. Lodge members spent much of the evening cooling off in the pool, enjoying some fresh fruit skewers, and singing karaoke with the LEC. Many agreed that the Friday night luau was one of the best activities our lodge has ever done.

The next day was no end to the fun, as thought-provoking trainings provided Arrowmen with ideas on how to improve their leadership styles. Youth and adults gave talks and started productive conversations about creative thinking, communication, and more. The activities committee also ran games which helped participants hone their communication, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Saturday’s games provided the Alaskan side of the weekend’s theme. Participants were challenged to cross a glacial river and construct duct tape boats to carry cargo across rough seas.

The last part of LLD was our monthly Lodge Executive Committee meeting. This part of the weekend was equally memorable, as the LEC decided to officially retire the lodge bonnets. Every participant came home from the weekend with some goal on how to improve the lodge and how they could take responsibility to make that happen.

Bull Weekend Recap

The Capture the Flag game that was held on Saturday afternoon.

Our 2022 Bull Weekend was a successful and fun event for all! Around 140 attendees travelled with us in our Northwestern-themed weekend. We completed over 700 hours of service to prepare Flaming Arrow for the summer, and we enjoyed themed activities such as capture the flag, duct tape construction, and a video game tournament on Saturday night. 37 members joined our lodge this weekend, and five of our brothers sealed their membership with Brotherhood. This was the largest Bull Weekend in our lodge’s history, and it set us off to a good start for the new lodge year!

Section Conference Recap

This past weekend, our Lodge put on an incredible performance at the first ever Section E5 Conference. With 59 members in attendance, Uh-To-Yeh-Hut-Tee Lodge had a dominating weekend, finishing in the top 3 for almost every competition, including wins in many of those categories. Among these victories was our 1st Place finish in the Best All-Around Lodge Competition, which marks the first podium finish and the first win in that competition in our Lodge's history. I am also very excited to congratulate our Lodge's own Nathan C. on being elected as the Section E5 Chief for the next year, which makes him just the second Section Chief to come from our Lodge.
